Five exciting Hungarian museums on the countryside
The best places for exploring Hungarian and other cultures are museums. Budapest has many iconic institutions representing Hungarian and international exhibitions, for example, the Kunsthalle, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hungarian National Gallery and the Hungarian National Museum. Besides these, there are several other collections in the countryside you might be interested in.Â
Matyó Museum, Mezőkövesd (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County)
The museum was opened in 1953. The main aim of the building is to represent the unique and beautiful Matyó folk culture of Hungary. The museum features impressive embroideries, ceramics and other objects which were once used by Matyós back in the day during their everyday lives.Â

Folk house in Kalocsa (Bács-Kiskun County)
The nearly 200-year-old building has been operating as a museum since 1952 and used to be the home of Hungarian people in the past. The house remained in an excellent condition representing how and where Hungarian people lived in the countryside back in the old times.Â
István Dobó Castle Museum, Eger (Heves County)
The István Dobó Castle Museum aims to be a scientific centre of Eger and to present the culture and legacy of Hungarian history through its exhibitions filled with interactive programs. The indoor and outdoor venues of the Eger Castle are excellently suitable for the museum of marvelous exhibitions and to step back in time in Hungarian history.Â
Royal Castle of Gödöllő (Pest County)
The 250-year-old Royal Palace is one of the largest palaces in the country and is a significant work of Hungarian Baroque architecture. Furthermore, it is only 30 minutes away from Budapest, both by car and by commuter rail. The castle features exhibitions representing the life at the castle, its history, Hungarian royal culture and how Sisi, Elisabeth, Queen of Hungary spent her time in the castle in Hungary.

Déri Museum, Debrecen (Hajdú-Bihar County)
Déri Museum is one of the most prominent museums of Debrecen and its region with an incredibly wide variety of collections. Its exhibitions include the samurai courthouse (Japanese collection), the history of weapons, fine art treasures, the history of Debrecen, honey bread shop, memories of the 1848 Revolution and Uprising, and the chamber of wonders.
